Super Mario Galaxy tops global box office
The animated film "Super Mario Galaxy" has surpassed one billion dollars in global box office revenue, becoming the first film in 2026 to reach this milestone and confirming the ongoing commercial dominance of video game-based movies at the box office. The film's success follows the achievement of its predecessor, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," which earned around $1.4 billion, with a relatively small production budget of $110 million, making it one of the highest-grossing films in recent years. The success relies on the collaboration between companies such as Universal Pictures, Illumination Entertainment, and Nintendo, along with Hollywood stars returning for voice performances and a new generation of actors. "Super Mario Galaxy" is expected to continue setting box office records as Universal prepares to launch new cinematic projects.
