Britain drops energy projects to save defense funds
The British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's government announced a commitment of £15 billion (approximately $20 billion) to increase the defense budget, with the cancellation of key projects in roads and energy to fund this. The plan includes investing over £5 billion in drone and combat robot systems over four years, aiming to boost defense capabilities in the face of growing threats and reduce dependence on Washington by increasing spending to 4.2% of GDP. This plan represents the largest effort by Sunak to strengthen the armed forces, though it falls short of previous demands for £28 billion.
