The French Football Federation has chosen legend Zinedine Zidane to take over as head coach of the national team for four years, succeeding Didier Deschamps who led France to victory in the 2018 World Cup. Zidane, 54 years old, has not managed a team since leaving Real Madrid in 2021, during which he achieved several titles with the club, most notably the Champions League and the Club World Cup. Federation President Philippe Diallo stated that appointing Zidane reflects France’s ambitions to restore its footballing glory and comes after the team’s failure at the 2022 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the semi-finals.
