US court invalidates NY delivery data law

A second U.S. appeals court in Manhattan has ruled that New York's law requiring food delivery companies to share customer data with restaurants is unconstitutional because it violates the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The law, enacted in the summer of 2021 to aid the restaurant industry after the COVID-19 pandemic, mandated platforms like Uber Eats, Grubhub, and DoorDash to disclose customer information in order to establish direct relationships and reduce reliance on the apps. The court declared the law unconstitutional, upholding an earlier ruling that found the mandate to disclose customer data conflicts with constitutional rights.
