The Federal Reserve Banks of New York and Dallas are conducting a study of the private credit market, which is valued at approximately $1.3 trillion after the end of the third quarter of 2023. The goal is to assess the standards and quality within this unregulated market. Since 2008, the private credit market has expanded to fund acquisitions and growth for high-risk companies, attracting investments from income-seeking investors. Regulators are facing difficulties in assessing the risks of this sector due to a lack of data and transparency, amid concerns over a deterioration in lending standards. The study's findings are expected to be published in the first quarter of 2027, aiming to offer deeper insights into non-traditional financing and its impact on the economy and monetary policy.
