U.S. President Donald Trump announced that all sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz waters have been detonated or removed, confirming that Iran has been informed that any attempt to plant new mines will be destroyed. He pointed out that the United States is monitoring the strait with full force, and that the policy of zero tolerance towards mine planting remains in effect. Despite the halt of airstrikes between Washington and Tehran for weeks, attacks on ships in the strait have continued. The Strait transports about 5 million barrels of oil daily—less than a fifth of what was transported before the war. These statements come amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran over control of this vital waterway.
