General Motors plans to invest 144 million Canadian dollars (a total of 104 million US dollars) to add a new generation assembly line for the Chevrolet Silverado heavy-duty truck at its factory in Ontario, Canada, despite US tariff threats that could reach 50% on imported vehicles starting in 2027. This decision is part of a preliminary agreement with a labor union comprising 4,600 members, which still requires ratification by the workers. It reflects General Motors' efforts to maintain the automotive industry in Canada amid pressures from traders and trade negotiations with the United States that have failed to reduce tariffs.
