Japan issues heavy rain and mudslide alerts
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a warning for heavy rains in the Fukui, Uno, and Katsuyama areas, leading to landslides and vehicle entrapments. Record rainfall exceeding 300 mm was recorded within 24 hours. A Level 5 warning, the highest alert indicating the potential or occurrence of a disaster, was issued before being lowered to Level 4, as the need to evacuate residents from affected areas persisted. Approximately 111,000 people were evacuated due to rising water levels, flooding homes and roads.
