Torture is unacceptable
The International Day in Support of Victims of Torture aims to highlight the necessity of protecting human rights and rejecting all forms of torture, which are unjustifiable under any circumstances. Despite the international ban, torture practices still continue in some countries like North Korea and Syria, and are considered some of the most heinous crimes that strip victims of their dignity and destroy their personalities. A court in South Africa has ruled that the torture experienced by prisoners in 2014 constitutes a serious violation, emphasizing the need to ensure that perpetrators do not escape justice.
