Mirror: Debate over rainbow flags at Egypt Iran match
The Egypt versus Iran match at the 2026 World Cup sparked widespread controversy over the display of rainbow flags inside the stadium. FIFA stated that it is permitted according to the tournament's rules, despite objections from the Egyptian and Iranian federations, who argued that it relates to human rights and sexual orientation. FIFA responded that the events are organized by a local committee in Seattle and that the match itself is official. This controversy comes after previous disputes over political symbols in past tournaments.
