Call for review of sugarcane payment delays
Yasser Hodaybi submitted a question regarding the delay in disbursing the dues of sugarcane farmers in Egypt, accusing the authorities of not reviewing the purchase prices in proportion to the rising production costs. This has led to a severe liquidity crisis, causing many farmers to resort to borrowing. He pointed out that the current purchase price is around 2,500 Egyptian pounds per ton, which does not reflect the true cost, thereby threatening the sustainability of sugarcane cultivation and increasing reliance on imports. He called for the prompt release of the dues and an improvement in financing and pricing mechanisms.
