Health advises limiting sugar to 10% of daily calories
The Egyptian Ministry of Health has issued an awareness guide that specifies the maximum daily sugar intake, based on recommendations from the World Health Organization. It states that added sugars should not exceed 10% of daily caloric intake, with an emphasis on reducing it further to less than 5%. The guide distinguishes between added sugars, found in beverages, sweets, and processed foods, and natural sugars present in fruits, vegetables, and dairy products, which are not subject to these limits. The ministry encourages adherence to these standards to prevent obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.
