Nigeria armed attack leaves 17 dead
An armed group killed farmers in the village of Tongar Bauari in Zamfara State, northwestern Nigeria. The gunmen, who were riding motorcycles, opened fire, resulting in the deaths of 17 people and the kidnapping of an unspecified number of individuals. This comes as attacks by gangs and jihadists on agricultural communities are escalating at the start of the rainy season, with violence continuing due to weak security forces, despite the government's pledge to deploy two thousand soldiers to combat these groups.
