The article discusses the state of the school supplies market in Egypt, highlighting that approximately 97% of paper products such as notebooks and writing pads are locally manufactured, despite the raw materials being imported. The spokesperson for the School Supplies Division stated that price increases this year are around 10%, primarily due to a significant rise in global maritime shipping costs, which have surged by up to 300%, and the increasing prices of plastic raw materials. A relatively stable exchange rate has helped limit the overall price hikes. The cost of a set of school supplies, which used to be about 1,500 Egyptian pounds last year, has now risen to between 1,600 and 1,650 pounds this year, despite local manufacturers urging to avoid raising prices amidst rising input costs.
