Cairo University has announced a remarkable discovery of a unique fossil site in the Western Desert dating back over 70 million years, specifically from the Late Cretaceous period. The discovery represents a rare assemblage of extinct sharks in the Abu Turtur area, where fossils of sharks from multiple species were found, including two previously unknown species. Some of the teeth reach lengths of approximately 6.7 meters. This study marks a significant step forward in understanding biodiversity and the history of marine life in Egypt, and it constitutes an important contribution to global scientific research. The findings have been published in international journals and involve collaboration with Swiss researchers.
