On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, the US dollar maintained its strength amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, after the United States carried out airstrikes on Iran, which responded in kind. Oil prices rose to around $95.52 a barrel, fueling inflation concerns. The dollar's appeal as a safe haven was supported by rising US Treasury yields and expectations of an interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve, with a 67% chance of a rate increase in September. This comes despite economic data that weakened market expectations, as US monthly economic indicators came in below forecasts. However, financial markets still anticipate a rate increase, with the ten-year Treasury yield climbing to 4.8%.
