Counselor Alaa Mostafa confirmed that applying an annual increase of 15% on the rent value for units under the old rental system, starting from September 1, 2026, does not grant the landlord the right to evict the tenant immediately if the increase is not paid. The landlord must follow legal procedures, such as issuing a formal warning. He explained that the law specifies two cases for eviction before the end of the transitional period: leaving the property vacant for more than a year without a valid reason, or the tenant owning a suitable alternative property. He also emphasized that tenants have the right to object to the increase if it is incorrect and to resort to the courts to determine the appropriate amount, emphasizing that the rent must be paid and cannot be withheld.
