Egyptian Minister of Agriculture, Alaa Farouk, discussed with a German delegation from the University of Munich the developments in the use of vertical farming and production in closed environments for strategic crops, especially wheat. Farouk pointed out that the goal of vertical agriculture is to enhance food security through innovative scientific solutions, not to replace traditional farming, especially in light of climate change and water scarcity. A workshop on controlled environment technology was reviewed, along with preparations to draft a memorandum of understanding and a joint research project to develop a pilot model for vertical farming, aiming to assess its economic and environmental feasibility in accordance with Egyptian conditions.
