A survey of the Egypt Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) showed that the non-oil private sector recorded its highest level in seven months in August, rising to 49.6 points from 46.8 in July. This came alongside a slowdown in the contraction of production and new orders, and an increase in employment for the first time since October. Despite ongoing declines in business activity and sales, the pace of decline eased, and company confidence improved due to new projects and the opening of new branches. At the same time, input costs and product prices increased at a faster rate. This reflects the beginning of a gradual economic recovery in Egypt's non-oil sector.
