Egypt's Mineral Industry Vision Reviewed

The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources in Egypt affirmed that the country is striving to maximize the economic value of its mineral resources by transforming them into value-added industries, rather than merely exporting raw materials. The development strategy includes establishing an integrated system that encompasses exploration, processing, manufacturing, production, and export, with the aim of increasing the mining sector's contribution to the gross domestic product. Egypt possesses diverse mineral resources, such as approximately 3 billion tons of phosphate, 600 million tons of iron oxides, as well as other minerals like gold, copper, and industrial minerals. The country is working to localize manufacturing and processing stages within Egypt, through large-scale projects such as the phosphoric acid complex and the phosphate fertilizers complex, to make the sector more beneficial to the national economy. Additionally, the government is enhancing the investment climate, streamlining procedures, and developing the business environment to attract more international investments in the mining industry.
