Scientists have revealed that the oldest known case of breast cancer dates back to ancient Egypt around 4,200 years ago. A mummy's skeleton of a woman from the Sixth Dynasty was discovered in Aswan, contaminated with a tumor that spread through her bones and other parts of her body. This woman was from the elite class and died after her condition worsened, proving that cancer has been known since ancient times and is not a modern disease. The study, using modern techniques such as X-rays and DNA analysis, helps in understanding diseases of the past and how to confront them. It also showed that ancient Egyptians suffered from other malignant diseases like arthritis and plagues such as the Black Death.
