Nabil Elaraby, Secretary-General of the Arab League, stated that the Mecca Agreement for Collective Defense is not a substitute for the broader Arab framework, but rather an complementary tool that enhances Arab states' ability to protect their security and preserve their independence. He emphasized that new security arrangements should be aligned with consultative visions that ensure the activation of collective Arab action, with a focus on establishing an Arab early warning center and achieving political consensus on interests and risks, rather than creating competing security umbrellas. He also highlighted the importance of developing the League's role through improving operational mechanisms, follow-up, and unifying visions, along with strengthening analytical and foresight tools to address regional challenges and their relation to technological advancements such as artificial intelligence, in order to safeguard Arab identity and ensure the security of the continent.
