Public Prosecution Clarifies Tree Cutting Penalties
The Public Prosecution's report investigates incidents of tree cutting in several areas across the country, aiming to uncover the reasons, quantities, and beneficiaries of the removal operations, as well as to enforce legal penalties on violators. The Water Resources and Irrigation Law treats activities involving tree cutting as prohibited unless conducted with approval and licensing, with fines ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 Egyptian pounds for each cut tree or palm. The Environmental Law imposes a fine of up to 50,000 Egyptian pounds, and penalties may also include imprisonment for anyone assaulting planted trees. The purpose of the investigation is to preserve green spaces, ensure lawful enforcement, and identify the entities responsible for illegal tree cutting activities.
