The retired artist Shams al-Baroudi addressed a message to Nagwa Ibrahim after Ibrahim objected to the outfits worn by female performers. She said that “public advice is a disgrace” and that comments should be offered privately rather than as public criticism. She added that artistic work is separate from personal conduct, and that she had not criticized her colleagues since retiring. She urged Ibrahim to speak with the head of the artists’ syndicate and offer her advice privately. Al-Baroudi praised Jehan Nour, saying she had expressed her position with warmth and grace.
