Early voting in the U.S. midterm congressional elections surpassed 57 million, setting a record, one day before Election Day on Tuesday. By noon Monday, the total stood at 57,030,406 votes. Some 31.8 million voters had cast ballots in person, while 25.2 million had returned ballots by mail. Democrats accounted for 43% of voters in states where party-affiliation data was available, compared with 31.8% for Republicans. However, party affiliation does not reveal which candidate a voter chose. The elections include all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 Senate seats, and will determine which party controls Congress during the final two years of President Donald Trump’s term.
