Yellow corn is an important source of livestock feed in Menoufia. Some of the crop is used to produce silage, which cuts feed costs by more than half, while the grain is sold to mills and factories. Around 20,000 feddans are planted with the crop, and a ton of silage sells for nearly EGP 12,000. The growing cycle for corn lasts between 80 and 90 days. The Ministry of Agriculture is encouraging expanded cultivation and contract farming to reduce grain imports and ensure farmers receive a fair price.
