Artist Ahmed Mesbah said that a mural of schoolgirl Mayar Othman was created at the entrance to the city of Baltim in Kafr El Sheikh Governorate to celebrate her winning first place worldwide in the Arab Reading Challenge. Measuring 1.5 by 2 meters, the mural took around 12 uninterrupted hours to paint in oils, after its design was incorporated into the restoration work at the city entrance. Mesbah said the work was created in recognition of Mayar’s achievement—she is nearly 11 years old—and to encourage children to follow her example.
