Honorary DSc for Yacoub
The UK’s Bournemouth University has awarded heart surgeon Sir Magdi Yacoub an honorary doctorate in science. He received it at a graduation ceremony held on Monday, November 2, in recognition of a medical, scientific and humanitarian career spanning more than 60 years. Yacoub has helped advance heart surgery and transplantation, and played a leading role in Europe’s first heart-and-lung transplant. Through the Chain of Hope charity and the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, he has also supported the establishment of specialist medical centres in Africa and the Middle East, and the expansion of cardiac care services.
