Maternity Review: Transparency and Standards
The Amos review finds that maternity and neonatal services across England are no longer fit for purpose, citing systemic failures and a culture of secrecy that have harmed families. It recommends improvements including independent investigations for dissatisfied families, binding national standards for maternity triage, and establishing a maternity commissioner to oversee reforms. However, the report acknowledges persistent issues such as systemic racism, disparities in maternal and infant mortality, and the impact of traumatic births, though it offers limited measures to directly address these concerns.
