Aid funds for bus fares may impact the poorest
Andy Burnham announced a reduction in bus fares in England, capping prices at £2 next year, funded primarily by converting international climate aid into repayable loans. This shift aims to address UK cost-of-living pressures but has raised criticism from charities and experts, who argue it risks harming the world’s poorest by increasing their debt and diverting funding from essential services. Critics contend that reallocating climate aid as loans may reduce overall aid and undermine international development efforts.
