UK river sees plastic pellets spill after ship collision
A spill of up to 25 tonnes of plastic nurdles occurred after a collision involving the Wind Orca ship at the Port of Tyne, releasing approximately a billion pellets into the River Tyne. The pellets have washed ashore on South Shields beach and may have spread further along the coast, posing environmental risks to wildlife and local habitats. Authorities are assessing the contamination and supporting cleanup efforts, with calls for stronger regulation to prevent future spills.
