Orcas may be playing with prey by causing explosions
Scientists observed orcas ramming and breaking sunfish into pieces, possibly for feeding or play, in the Gulf of California. The behaviour, captured on film, may serve practical purposes for juveniles or reflect orca social play, demonstrating advanced cognitive abilities. Researchers emphasize that respectful wildlife observation can help uncover these behaviors without disturbing the animals.
