Donald Trump signed an executive order to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America, aiming to rebrand the U.S. side of the Great Lake amid tense US-Canada relations. The move appears to be a distraction from declining approval ratings, ongoing conflicts over tariffs, and the collapsed trade negotiations with Canada. The name change is also seen as a provocative gesture towards Canada, but it has been dismissed by officials who note the lake's name predates both countries and is rooted in Indigenous language. This act reflects Trump's broader attempts to reframe reality amid international and domestic challenges.
