An NHS watchdog has warned that AI-powered transcription tools used in patient consultations can produce errors, such as incorrect drug names and diagnoses, potentially risking patient safety. Cases cited include false diagnoses of demyelination and mistaken medication prescriptions, with errors sometimes only identified by patients. The watchdog highlights concerns over the lack of oversight, as AI scribes are not classified as medical devices, and emphasizes the need for clear reporting and correction procedures.
