The US government has faced criticism for its limited initial humanitarian response to the devastating floods in Nepal, which caused over 1,000 deaths and left thousands unaccounted for. An emergency aid contribution of $500,000, later increased to $3.6 million, has been described as inadequate and symbolic, especially compared to past US disaster assistance before the dismantling of USAID. Experts argue that the reduction in US aid capacity has hindered effective relief efforts, and they warn that this approach benefits the lead of neighboring countries rather than US interests in regional stability.
