Sweden has defended its policy of removing and deporting British citizens who failed to apply for residence permits after Brexit, with the migration minister affirming that the country has met its obligations under the withdrawal agreement. Despite ongoing controversy and cases like Joyce Thomas, a 78-year-old woman ordered to leave after 21 years, the Swedish government maintains it is implementing the agreement correctly, with the European Commission supporting this stance. Critics argue that Sweden’s approach may conflict with EU law, and calls for review or legal challenge have been raised, highlighting concerns over the treatment of British citizens with strong connections to the country.
