Neet review urges benefit cuts for youth support
Alan Milburn, author of a government review, advocates cutting welfare benefits to fund increased employment support for young people, aiming to address the record number of youths classified as NEET (not in education, employment, or training). He emphasizes that the current system is failing young people and that integrated support across health, welfare, and employment is needed to reduce youth disconnection and improve mental health outcomes. His proposals include significant upfront investment, better health assessments, and providing more opportunities to help young people enter the workforce.
