What occurs inside psychiatric hospitals

The World Health Organization has issued a call to accelerate the transition from long-term hospital-based mental health care to community-based services that respect patients' rights and help them return to their normal lives. It emphasized that about half of those residing in psychiatric hospitals stay there for months or years, often against their will, which isolates them from society. The organization has published a new guide outlining measures to reduce such situations and encourages involving individuals with lived experience in policy development, alongside providing health, social, and housing support services to facilitate this transformation.
