The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the Romanian Consul General in Saint Petersburg was informed that he is an unfriendly person and has been ordered to leave Russian territory. Additionally, the Romanian Consulate General in the city was closed. These measures came in response to Romania's decision to withdraw its approval for the continued operation of the Russian consulate in Constanța, following an incident where a drone crashed onto a residential building, injuring two people. The escalation between Russia and Romania occurs in the context of heightened tensions in the eastern region of NATO, as Moscow and Bucharest seek to respond to mutual provocations.
