Gulf-US Back Zaydi Arms Control
A Gulf-American statement affirmed support for the efforts of the Iraqi government, led by Ali Al-Zaydi, to restrict weapons to the state's control, and expressed backing for preventing armed groups from using Iraqi territory to threaten neighboring countries. The meeting also condemned attacks carried out by factions in Iraq against Gulf Cooperation Council countries, including drone strikes on civilian facilities and infrastructure. Al-Zaydi's government has already begun steps to disconnect armed factions from the military brigades they are affiliated with and place them at the disposal of the armed forces.
