Factory uses black coal to color biscuits
Egyptian authorities have successfully raided an unlicensed factory in the Qalyubia Governorate that was using expired materials and adulterated raw ingredients to produce biscuits, including "Oreo" biscuits and those used in ice cream manufacturing. The campaign revealed that the factory relied on cheap materials, such as E153, a charcoal-based colorant used as a cocoa substitute, as well as barrels containing expired products like butter and glucose. Authorities seized 1.8 tons of spoiled products and contraband raw materials, and a legal report was filed. This operation was part of organized inspection efforts aimed at cracking down on illegal manufacturing practices and public health threats.
