Washington sustains Iraq's influence via dollar, oil, and intel
The report stated that the United States maintained its influence in Iraq through political, economic, and intelligence relations, despite the partial military withdrawal that took place in 2026. Political and security ties still remain active, particularly through information sharing and support in areas such as air defense and Iraqi aircraft maintenance. Meanwhile, economic interests, such as control over oil revenues and the dollar-based payment system, continue to be the primary tools of American influence in the country. Despite the partial military withdrawal, the United States remains significantly influential, especially through its relationships with the Iraqi government and its financial and security connections. However, these relations remain vulnerable to tensions due to security challenges and political disagreements.
