Private Hospitals Lacking Waste Approvals
The Ministry of Environment in Iraq warns of the dangers of poor medical waste management, noting that 53 private hospitals out of 147 lack the necessary environmental approvals, which poses risks to human health and the environment. The ministry emphasized that improper treatment of wastewater and medical waste can contribute to the spread of diseases and the proliferation of antibiotic-resistant germs. It called for cooperation between the Ministry of Health and local authorities to rectify violations and establish treatment plants to ensure the safe disposal of medical waste in accordance with environmental regulations.
