Baghdad Prepares Post-Alliance After Desert Forces on Saudi Border
The Iraqi government announces the formation of desert patrol forces to secure the borders with Saudi Arabia in the areas of Karbala, Najaf, and Muthanna. The goal is to plug security gaps and counter potential attacks from within Iraqi territory on Saudi installations. The spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces confirmed that the borders are now fully secured and assured that security agencies are committed to preventing the use of Iraqi land to threaten neighboring countries. Additionally, the government is working to keep weapons under state control and has implemented a plan to resolve the issue of armed factions by June 30, 2027. Officials also pointed to an improvement in intelligence coordination following the withdrawal of coalition forces, along with efforts to address the gap in Iraqi technical capabilities to combat ISIS. The detention of thousands of terrorist detainees continues, with increasing international support in the fight against terrorism.
