Erbil Calls for Peshmerga Funding in 2027 Budget
The Kurdistan Region has demanded that the expenses of the Peshmerga forces be included within the sovereign expenditures in Iraq's 2027 budget, aiming to ensure funding for their salaries and allowances, including projects, training, and weaponry, based on standards equal to those of the federal government forces. The Regional Prime Minister issued directives to coordinate with Kurdish factions in Baghdad to advocate for this demand during the budget preparation and discussion process, emphasizing that it is a legal and constitutional right for the regional government. This initiative is part of its efforts to secure financial rights for the Peshmerga forces from the central government.
