The Cabinet, headed by Jafar Hassan, approved an operational plan to accelerate the national water carrier project in Jordan. This includes coordination between the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the National Electric Power Company to ensure the project is connected to the electrical grid before construction begins. Additionally, the government approved a $97 million funding agreement with the French Development Agency to finalize the financing of the project, which is the largest in the history of Jordan's water sector. The project aims to desalinate around 300 million cubic meters of seawater annually using renewable energy technologies, providing about 40% of the country's domestic water needs. Its total cost is approximately $5.8 billion, reflecting the country's ambition to secure sustainable water resources for future generations.
