Over half of England faces drought from heatwaves
Large parts of England are facing an unprecedented drought crisis due to continued heatwaves and a lack of rainfall, with more than half of the country's areas entering a state of drought. This has led to reduced water supplies, increased risks of wildfires, and falling river levels. July experienced rainfall levels up to 7% below average in most regions, and 1% below in the south, resulting in a phenomenon known as "flash drought," characterized by a rapid shift from a rainy winter to a hot, dry summer. Water restrictions have been imposed on more than 20 million people, with the possibility of additional measures being introduced soon.
