The resignation of Carlos Cordeiro, the Chief Advisor of FIFA, demonstrates his strong opposition to the plan to sell a stake in the World Cup to external investors. This plan involves establishing a commercial company valued at $20 billion to oversee the organization of FIFA tournaments and events. Cordeiro expressed his outright rejection of the deal, deeming it "bad for football and its future," and described it as detrimental to the interests of associations and clubs. The resignation comes amid widespread opposition from Asian and European associations, which have voiced deep concerns about the risks this move poses to the sport's future, calling for institutional reforms and greater transparency within FIFA.
