Amman Municipality adopts AI and AR/VR for heritage documentation
Amman Municipality continues its efforts within its strategy (2026-2030) to transform historical and heritage sites in the capital into an integrated tourism system. The initiative includes developing and managing diverse touristic routes that cover history, culture, and religion, with the aim of enhancing Amman's position as a domestic and international tourist destination. It also seeks to connect archaeological areas in an interactive manner by utilizing artificial intelligence technologies and virtual/augmented reality (AR–VR) to offer a rich and engaging digital tourism experience. Thirteen routes were launched in 2024, including the Amman Walkway, which connects important landmarks such as the Jordan Museum and the Roman Theater. Efforts are underway to develop infrastructure and provide digital documentation elements to increase visitor engagement and improve the cultural and historical tourism experience.
