Ethiopia has stated that the flow of the Nile River waters to downstream countries will be under its control, as it plans to build additional dams on the river to achieve development and utilize water resources in a "fair" manner to enhance electricity generation. These statements come amid ongoing tensions with Egypt and Sudan, with Egypt considering water a matter of national security and demanding a binding legal agreement to prevent the dams from affecting its water share. Ethiopia intends to add three new dams, increasing its storage capacity to approximately 224 billion cubic meters, which could further complicate the long-standing dispute over the management of the Nile's resources and the operation of the dams during periods of drought.
